The Sculptors Alliance, Inc., a 501 (c) 3 non-for-profit artists’ cooperative, was founded in 1980 for the purpose of providing a forum for discussion, mutual support and furthering the appreciation of sculpture through group exhibitions and educational programs. Members do not adhere to any pre-determined style but are free to create at will.

Since its formation, the group has enjoyed an active exhibition history at a variety of galleries and alternative spaces in and around New York City. The members of the Sculptors Alliance include accomplished, professional artists as well as emerging artists from the metropolitan area, with a particular focus on those who reside or work on the Lower East Side. Members’ works have won numerous awards and are included in private and public collections throughout the United States, South America and Europe.

Our goal is to have one open exhibition per year in which all associates may participate and one or more juried exhibitions, where exhibitors will be selected by a jury committee, the curator(s), or an outside juror.

Our Mission

Sculptors Alliance, Inc. is committed to developing and encouraging community interest in the field of fine arts, with an emphasis on sculpture. The organization is devoted to fostering creativity through the promotion of sculpture as an art form in a way that makes a sustained and lasting impact on the public.  It focuses its efforts in the neighborhoods of the Lower East Side of New York and concentrates on promoting self-discovery and growth in adults and senior citizens through the medium of sculpture. It seeks to provide information and instruction on the techniques and methodologies of sculptural art in order to stimulate expression of the community’s cultural status and heritage. Through exhibitions and presentation of works of sculpture, Sculptors Alliance offers a means by which the cultural identity of the community may be expressed; it showcases established and unknown, but promising, artists for the cultural enjoyment of the community.

Many thanks to Sculptors Alliance, Yasmin Gur’s sculpture workshop, and Governor’s Island for providing the space and opportunity to work in a creative environment not readily available in New York City.
